Development Process – Good graphic design is like the art of medicine. The designer listens closely to the client's concerns, diagnoses the problem, and develops an appropriate design strategy. Throughout the process, the designer stays in close contact with the client and respects the client's values and priorities. All this is done to ensure the best outcomes.

Phase 1: Interview and Diagnosis

Great design starts by understanding your distinct agenda. And so our first step is the 'interview.' Just as a physician interviews a patient, we ask questions to better understand you, our client. We want to better understand your self-image, goals, audience, project parameters, and desired outcomes. We diagnose your design needs and discover strategies to effectively solve these issues. At this stage we provide:

  • A design brief describing our understanding of the project's goals and parameters
  • A detailed schedule to guide the process

Phase 2: Treatment Strategy

Just as a doctor develops a treatment strategy to return a patient to good health, we also must develop a plan to help you. Here is where we begin to visualize our thoughts. Through creative thinking exercises and collaborative discourse, we develop ideas that express your core message. Every choice, from layout and color to type-style is made with your strategic communication goals in mind. Stand-out ideas are chosen for development into initial concepts and are further refined. We then present the initial concepts to you and work with you to turn these concepts into comprehensive design directions. At this stage we provide:

  • Design concepts for evaluation
  • Design refinements for the chosen design direction

Phase 3: Treatment

A treatment strategy is nothing without implementation. As a doctor may prescribe medications or therapies to treat your illness, we too will take advantage of all tools available to bring you the best results. At this phase we concentrate on the details, ensuring that every element works to aid the project goals. Once the final design is ready to produce, we work with you to create and/or gather needed text, images and other materials. We proof and refine the design, check, double-check, proof again, and prepare the design for final production. We work closely with all vendors to ensure your finished product meets our (and your) standards of excellence. At this stage we provide:

  • Production proofs for proofing and refinement as needed
  • Production management for the finished project
  • The finished project

Phase 4: Follow-up Appointment

Rest assured, our work is not complete after the project is delivered. We want to know how everything worked out, so like any good doctor, we will schedule a follow-up appointment. We work with you to gather feedback, and evaluate not only how the process went, but also what the response has been. This will help us to improve and provide you with even better service next time.
